“This is the history of a local football league which have touched many families and generations in Bishop’s Stortford and surrounding towns and villages. Pat should be congratulated for his meticulous research and determination to publish. It helps to revive many happy memories of times past. Well done Pat.‘’
‘’As a former player and referee, I am proud to support this publication.”

For over 90 years the Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted and District Football League provided thousands of people with their physical and social activity for the week, for many after a long working week.
This excellent book highlights the dedication of hundreds of volunteers who have given their time to organise football activity in the North/West Essex and East Herts border areas and the thousands of players who have enjoyed participating in the League.
Pat’s “labour of love” has produced over 400 pages of local football history. This is a testament to the passion he holds for the League and due to his dedication the 90 years of the League’s highs and lows are recorded for ever.
It is impossible to calculate the hours that have gone into producing this excellent tribute to everyone who has played a part in the BSS&DFL and I’m sure I speak for everyone when saying thank you Pat for your outstanding book.

The Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted and District Football League played a major role in the lives of tens of thousands of people for more than 90 years.
For nearly a century it was often the highlight of people’s weeks.
It was one of the strongest leagues in the country and so efficiently run by the volunteers who made up the League committee.
It’s been disappointing there has not been some sort of book documenting its importance.
Now Pat Brazzier has finally put this right and has taken him years. He has put in thousands of hours of work and research. The whole community around the Stortford area owes him a huge debt of gratitude.
